CRUISE CONTROL UNEXPECTEDLY CANCELS OR WILL NOT SET

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

All 1999 Proteges.

DESCRIPTION

The cruise control may unexpectedly cancel or not set at all due to an improperly adjusted brake switch. Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. Remove the front passenger side trim to access cruise control module.

3. Disconnect the cruise control module connector (Q-01) and attach a digital OHM meter equipped with a beeper to connector terminals V/R (violet/red) and P (pink).

4. Loosen the brake switch lock nut.
5. Adjust the brake switch so that the OHM meter beeper sounds continuously with the brake pedal in the upper position.

NOTE: If OHM meter emits continuous beep when initially connected, STEP 5 is not necessary.

6. Unscrew the brake switch (counterclockwise) until the beeper stops.
7. Screw the brake switch in (clockwise) slowly until the meter just starts to intermittently beep. Then turn switch back in (clockwise) an additional 3/4 - 1 turn.
8. Retighten brake switch lock nut.
9. Reconnect the cruise control module connector and reinstall the front passenger side trim.
10. Verify repair.
