1999 Protege - VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY HESITATES OR JERKS

APPLICABLE MODELS

All 1999 Protege with manual transmissions (M/T).

DESCRIPTION

The vehicle may intermittently hesitate or jerk when accelerating or just before shifting. This may be caused by the customer resting their foot on the clutch pedal and unknowingly or prematurely depressing it enough to close the clutch switch. This action sends a ground signal to the PCM which causes a fuel cut and timing retard condition.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. With the NGS tester, verify the condition occurs when the Clutch Switch (CLT SW) PID changes.
3. With a 1.0mm feeler gauge inserted between the modified rubber stopper and clutch switch plunger, adjust the clearance between the clutch pedal height adjustment bolt and its rubber stopper to 0mm clearance.
4. Verify repair.
