1999 Protege - POWER DOOR LOCK MALFUNCTION

APPLICABLE MODELS

All 1999 Protege with VINs lower than JM1 BJ22 0 119526.

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit the following power door lock malfunctions:

NOTE: When unlocking all other doors at the drivers door lock, be sure to hold the vehicle key in the unlock position (counter clockwise) for approximately one (1) second. The passengers door lock should unlock all other doors immediately when the key is in the unlock position.

This could be caused by corrosion and/or water on the door switch contacts. A modified door lock switch with a rubber seal is available to resolve this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify customer concern.
2. Using an ohm meter, check for continuity between the two (2) door lock switch terminals while placing the lock switch in the various positions as shown in the table below.
