INSPECTION SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTIONS - 1996 PROTEGE
APPLICABLE
MODELS/VINS
All 1996 Protege vehicles
DESCRIPTION
The attached instructions will assist dealer personnel in
inspecting key areas of the above vehicles during Pre-Delivery
Inspection. Distribute this information to dealer personnel responsible
for
this process.
NOTE: The items listed below
are important
areas for thorough inspection but do not exclude other PDI inspection
items.
List Of Key Items Covered:
PROTEGE - Rattle From Hood Area
- Battery Check If ROOM Fuse Is Installed
- Shift Knob Tightness
- Seaming Welt Fit
PROTEGE Pre-Delivery Inspection
Items
A - Rattle Under Hood
When the front door is closed (firmly), a rattle noise may
be heard under the hood.
- Pull the hood release
lever to release the hood lock.
- Slam the front door
and listen for a rattle noise.
- If the
noise is heard, turn the two (2) rubber stops counterclockwise 180
degrees to elevate the stops.
- Close the hood and
confirm that the noise does not occur when the front door is closed.
B - Battery Check If The
"ROOM" Fuse Is Installed
If the ROOM fuse is installed at the port, battery drain may
result.
- Check the fuse box
and confirm that the fuse is not installed.
- If the
fuse has been installed, remove the fuse until delivery and check
the voltage of the battery. Refer to Service Bulletin, Category
G, 002/95 for inspection procedure.
NOTE: The MIL will
illuminate after removing
the ROOM fuse.
C - Shift Lever Knob Tightening
/ Seaming Welt Fitting
As a result of temperature changes that occur during shipping
and storage, the shift lever knob and seaming welt may loosen.
- Inspect the tightness
of the shift lever knob by turning right and left.
- If you
are able to move the knob, tighten until the shift pattern is straight
and the knob is tight.
- Open the front and
rear doors and check the fit of the seaming welt.
