DESCRIPTION

Some new vehicles may have HLA noise after restarting a warm engine or idling for 20-30 seconds after high speed driving.

This is caused by the oil pan sealant used during production dissolving into the engine oil. This does not affect the lubricating properties of the oil. The sealant has been changed to prevent this occurrence.

If the noise is heard in new vehicles that have not had the first oil change, (i.e. factory oil is still present in the engine) follow the instructions below to flush the lubrication system. If the vehicle has been driven for a period of time and the oil has been changed, refer to the procedures in Service Bulletin Cat. B, #008/93

NOTE: HLA noise may occur between the first and second oil change on "B" type engines.

REPAIR PROCEDURE (For "K" and "FS" Type Engines)

  1. Replace the engine oil with new oil.

NOTE: Do not over fill. Put in only enough oil to bring the level to the "F" mark on the dip stick.

REPAIR PROCEDURE (For "B" type Engines)

  1. Drain engine oil.

  2. Fill engine with new oil.

  3. Start engine and run at 2500 RPM for 10 minutes.

WARNING: WHILE RUNNING THE ENGINE AT 2500 RPM, TAKE CARE TO AVOID ENGINE OVER HEATING.

NOTE: Do not over fill. Put in only enough oil to bring the level to the "F" mark on the dip stick. Use of a lower grade oil for system flushing will not affect this procedure. It is not necessary to replace the filter.

  4. After flushing, drain and replace the oil with the specified quantity and grade of motor oil. It is not necessary to replace the filter.
