In the "D" range, during light to medium acceleration from a stop, there
may be a resonance noise heard from under the vehicle.
The noise sounds similar to a loose pipe or heat shield, and is most
noticeable after an upshift when the tachometer drops into the 2500-2700
RPM range. The noise may not be heard above 2800 RPM or if the engine is
revved at idle without a load.
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift and inspect the entire exhaust system for
loose heat shields and mounting hangers.
2. Check the "Front Pipe" heat insulator for looseness. Inspect the spot
weld holding the heat insulator shield near the engine side (the
topside weld opposite the 02 sensor). If the spot welds are tight,
the insulator will feel solid when tapped, If loose, replace the
front pipe.
