0002146 Dealer Repair Information
Sulfur remaining in the burned gases is oxidized by the catalytic
converter creating hydrogen sulfide which gives off a sulfur odor. This
odor does not mean that there is a problem with the performance or
function of the vehicle.
As miles are accumulated on the vehicle, there will be a moderation in
the oxidizing effect of the catalytic converter which will weaken this
odor. NOTE: This will not effect the converters capability to meet
exhaust regulations. If a customer complains about a sulfur odor coming
from their Protege's
exhaust, recommend that they try a different brand or type of gasoline
from what they are currently using.
