Coolant leak (seepage) at any one or all of the elbow ends.             
                                                                        
Some early production elbows had molding flaws which allowed coolent to 
wick though the internal cords.                                         
                                                                        
                                                                        
Repair Procedure                                                        
                                                                        
Replace water return elbow with improved type which can be identified   
by a blue stripe.
