The emissions system classifications of MAZDA3 are varied. See the
following descriptions to clarify the differences.

************************************************************************

The 2.0L engines are only available on 4-door sedans. There are two
different emissions specifications.

2.0L, FEDERAL
EPA classification is Tier 2 Bin 5 and applies to all states except CA,
NY, MA, ME, and VT.

2.0L, CALIFORNIA
CARB (California Air Resources Board) classification is partial zero
emissions vehicle (PZEV) and applies to CA, NY, MA, ME, and VT only.
The PZEV classification means that it is classified as SULEV for exhaust
emissions and it also meets the zero evaporative emission requirements
for emissions of fuel vapors from the fuel tank and evaporative emission
canister. To achieve PZEV emissions, this vehicle comes with three O2
sensors, and modified air cleaner, exhaust system, fuel tank, pistons,
and piston rings

The 2.3L engines are optional on 4-door sedans and standard on 5-door
hatchbacks. There are two different emissions specifications.

2.3L, FEDERAL
EPA classification is Tier 2 Bin 5 and applies to all states except CA,
NY, MA, ME, and VT.

2.3, CALIFORNIA
CARB classification is LEV, in the new for 2004 California LEV II
emission program, and applies only to CA, NY, MA, ME, and VT. The
emission control hardware is the same, with the exception of additional
OBD monitors for certification to California requirements.

Note that for each emission type and transmission type, a different PCM
is used. Therefore, there are 8 different PCM part numbers that are
available.
