During April 2005 production, Mazda3 EHPAS pumps were commonized
with
the Mazda5 EHPAS due to cost reduction. The new EHPAS pump will
work
on the early Mazda3's (Built before April 2005). The old pump will
NOT
work on the vehicle's built after April 2005 because the
as-built
data for these vehicles has changed and requires data to
be
entered into the VID block line 5 byte 2 of the EHPAS module
to
determine if the vehicle is equipped with DSC. ALL N.A. 2004-2005 Mazda3
vehicles DO NOT have DSC. But the byte must be populated with
the
correct data to indicate this.
See below for more
details.
If you are replacing the EHPAS pump, and your vehicle is built
on/after
April 1, 2005, check the build numbers on the pump. If the pump P/N
is
C238-32-600B or C and the build number is 995-11603 or later, proceed to
step #1. If the build number is 995-11602, then proceed to step
2.
1. You will need to perform the normal WDS "Programmable
Module
Installation" procedure. When completed, clear all DTC's and
verify
repair. Procedure
complete.
2. You will need to perform a "NO COMMs" vehicle session and
manually
enter the as-built data for your vehicle. Contact the
Technical
Assistance Hotline to obtain as-built data for your
vehicle.
3. Enter the as-built data from the sheet for lines 730-01-01 to 730-04-
01. On line 730-05-01 you must select the correct as-built data
below
depending on the tire size of your
vehicle.
15" tires = 730-05-01 0601 0000
0042
16" tires = 730-05-01 0501 0000
0043
17" tires = 730-05-01 0401 0000
0044
4. Make sure after entry of all data you receive a screen that
says
"EPS module configuration successful". If not, attempt
procedure
again.
5. When configuration is complete, clear all DTC's, and verify
repair.
Procedure complete.

Mazda3 will cause WDS to give you a "configuration unsuccessful"

message during PMI. It will also cause the power steering warning light
to illuminate and DTC's P2141, C1278, and or B2477 to be
stored.
