On 2006 Mazda3 vehicles with 2.0L (LF) and 2.3L (L3) engines and
2006
Mazda6 vehicles with 2.3L (L3) engines, a re-designed cylinder head has
been adapted. The cylinder head requires use of new spark plugs.
These new spark plugs have a longer thread length of 1" (versus 3/4" for
2003-2005 models) to advance ignition timing and prevent abnormal
combustion.
DO NOT interchange 2003-2005 spark plugs with 2006 vehicles. This will
cause a misfire to occur because the spark plug electrode will not reach
into the combustion chamber.
DO NOT interchange 2006 spark plugs with 2003-2005 vehicles. This may
cause damage to the engine due to pre-ignition.
