Some 2004-2006 Mazda3 or Mazda5 vehicles may experience one or both
of
the following intermittent symptoms:
-Ignition key reminder chimes after ignition key is removed from
ignition cylinder (and driver's door is open).
-Keyless entry transmitter functions are inoperative.
The cause may be an internal failure of the ignition switch, causing the
vehicle to think the key is still in the ignition after it has been
removed. To diagnose this condition perform the following:
1. Verify the presence of both symptoms (even if the customer reported
only 1 of the 2). If both symptoms are present, continue to the next
step. If both symptoms are not present, diagnose further according to
the Workshop manual section 09 - BODY N ACCESSORIES.
2. Replace the ignition switch, as outlined in the Workshop manual
section 09-21 - IGNITION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.
3. Verify Repair. If symptoms are still present, refer to the WSM
section 09 BODY N ACCESSORIES.
