Information
On some models, it is difficult to replace oil filter without spilling
oil onto exhaust system. This may cause oil drips and/or burning oil
odor resulting in customer dissatisfaction. Over the years, technicians
have resorted to bent cardboard or a similar method to cover the exhaust
during oil changes.
An alternative is to use pre-cut aluminum foil sheets. Foil conforms
easily when wrapped around the exhaust. This can be especially helpful
on MPV, Mazda6, and Tribute with V6 engines or older models with woven
flex pipe that can become saturated with oil. After the filter change,
the foil can be disposed of along with the filter for recycling. Clean
up time is reduced and less brake cleaner will be used.
