Symptom and Conditions

Vehicles equipped with AUTO wipers sense the amount of rainfall on the windshield and turn the wipers on or off automatically.  There is also a sensitivity adjustment on the wiper stalk.  Turn the switch down for higher sensitivity (turns on sooner with lighter rainfall) and up for less sensitivity (turns on later under heavier rainfall). 

Repair Procedure

With wipers in the AUTO position and the ignition switch in the ON position, the wipers may move automatically in the following cases :    
                                                                        
- If vehicle is taken through a car wash                                
- If windshield above the rain sensor is touched, or, wiped with a      
  cloth by cleaning or clearing ice and snow.                           
- If the windshield is struck with an object from outside or inside     
  the vehicle                                                           
                                                                        
The sensitivity switch may easily be mistaken for the intermittent wiper adjustment.  These models DO NOT have intermittent wiper adjustment.
