DOOR LOCK NOISE

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS

All 1995 Protege with a VIN of JM1BA14**S0999999 and lower.

DESCRIPTION

A cracking noise from the "B" pillar may be noticed when accelerating and braking. This noise may be caused by a lack of lubricant on the door lock mechanism. Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and repaired, if necessary.

NOTE: This concern does not affect the operation of the vehicles locking system.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Rotate the fork on the affected door to a locked position.

NOTE: Slide block and spring should be visible.

2. Apply spray grease to the slide block spring.
3. Pull the inner handle to return the fork to its original position.
4. Push the slide block back and apply spray grease to the open area.
5. Verify the repair.
