1997 Protege with FMS audio systems (I.D. 4263) and a VIN of JM1BC14V0132779 and lower.

NOTE: The audio systems I.D. number is printed on the cassette door.

DESCRIPTION

The audio systems sound may cut out when the blower motor is activated. This concern is caused by a current surge transmitted to the audio unit through the harness between the audio system and the speakers. This current surge affects the audio systems IC (Integrated Circuit). The audio units IC is now modified to protect against current surge.

Customers complaining of this concern should have their vehicles repaired using the following procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the concern.
2. Inspect the cassette door for the I.D. number.
3. Verify the repair.
