NOISE FILTER ESTABLISHMENT FOR DTC P0400

APPLICABLE MODELS

1995-96 Protege vehicles with Z5 Engine

DESCRIPTION

Under certain load and RPM ranges(See Table) excessive noise may be in generated in the EGR boost sensor circuit causing DTC P0400 to be set.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

For 95 Models

1. Perform diagnostic procedures for DTC P0400 as noted in Service Bulletin F-013/97.
2. In addition to Service Bulletin diagnostic procedures, if recorded freeze frame data is within the affected ranges as indicated in the table, install the EGR boost sensor noise filter according to the Installation Procedures.

For 96 Models

Vehicles produced before "A" suffix PCM (with a VIN of JM1BB141*T322397 and lower and production date before 10/26/95).
1. Perform diagnostic procedures for DTC P0400 as noted in Service Bulletin F-013/97
2. If no cause was found for condition when performing diagnostic procedures, confirm that original PCM is in vehicle (PT No. Z52*-18-881).
3. If PCM was needed and recorded freeze frame data is within the affected ranges as indicated in the chart below, install the EGR boost sensor noise filter per installation procedures.
Vehicles with "A" suffix PCM's installed at production (with a VIN after JM1BB141*T322397 and production date after 10/26/95)
1. Perform diagnostic procedures for DTC P0400 as noted in Service Bulletin F-013/97
.
2. Verify "A" suffix PCM is installed in vehicle. (Example Z52*-18-881A)
3. If no cause was found when performing diagnostic procedures and the recorded freeze frame data is within the affected ranges as indicated in the chart install the EGR boost sensor noise filter per installation procedures.

NOISE FILTER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Remove the rear console.
2. Remove the front console.
3. Locate the gray wire (3H wire) in the B1-01 connector and cut approximately 3cm (1.25in.) from the terminal. Refer to Figure 1.
4. Using an electric-tap, connect the cut wire to the signal wire in series.
5. Secure the noise filter with ECU harness with adhesive tape. Refer to Figure 1.
6. Reinstall the front and rear consoles.
